Hi - I'm Stuart and thank you for taking some time to look through my work
Devon is in my blood - born in Brixham, I have always felt a strong connection to the county and its heritage. My grandad's family farmed around Bovey Tracey and he and my grandma later owned a dairy in Torbay where they counted Agatha Christie as one of their regular customers. Call me biased, but I believe that Devon is the most beautiful part of England and I am passionate about using my photography to help promote all it has to offer.
Why Blackstone? Well, I have always loved photography and back in 2015 I took a shot of the Blackstone Reef (off Start Point) which was well received and it inspired me to take photography more seriously. And with that, Blackstone Photo was born.
I specialise in Dartmoor landscape photography. I am fortunate to live just a few miles from the moor and it really is my happy place. From the early autumn to the late spring, I always shoot at dawn – there really is something special about being alone in dark waiting for the sun to rise, knowing you are one of just a few people around to witness the world wake up. I'm always accompanied by Jasper, my Bosnian rescue dog who is the most perfect assistant sitting patiently for hours waiting for me to stop messing around! In the summer, the sunrise is a bit too early so I switch to shooting at sunset.
As a landscape photographer, Dartmoor provides everything you could ever need. It remains one of the last true landscapes where your only companions are the cattle and curlews, skylarks and ponies – and the weight of six thousand years of history, Neolithic monuments and the ghosts of the past at your back. The atmosphere changes like the weather and the light and the opportunities for photography are endless.
I am on the moor every week – all year round - shooting on a Cannon DSLR with lenses between 10 - 300mm, a range of Lee Filters and the Travis tripod from 3 Legged Thing.I have been lucky enough to have had my work on numerous magazine covers, and was asked to be the featured Photographer for the Dartmoor Magazine in Spring 2023 (right). I am also working with Visit Devon to supply images to their Devon photo bank.
A wide range of cards, prints and calendars featuring my work is available from my Etsy store or via the shop section on the main menu of my website , and I sell regularly to customers across Europe and North America. I am keen to promote Devon wherever I can, so any local businesses who are interested in working with me, please get in touch.
